At the center here of the captivating rolling hills, dwelt a shepherd boy. His existence was mostly unadulterated, simple yet virtuous. His primary duty was mainly to tend to his flock of rams.

Their soft bleating and the rustling of the wind across the single tree on the hilltop were his main co-dwellers. Day upon day, watching over his charges imbued in him a sense of quiet fulfillment.

But, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would pine for companionship. On one such day out of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty plot.

Stories of wolves hunting on sheep had been around for a while in the village. So, the boy decided to exploit this fear and played a joke on the villagers.

One morning he dashed into the village screaming “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The frightened villagers rushed up the hills to help but discovered no beast.

The boy laughed at the confusion on their faces. This game persisted for a couple of more days. Yet, one morning, a real wolf actually come to prey the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy fought against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Devastated, he went back to the village only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the consequences of crying wolf.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been passed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is difficult to reclaim. It's a story as pertinent today as it was then.
